Domestic Violence

A temporary restraining order (also known as a TRO) is a court order that can protect you from being threatened, stalked, or harassed.

You can ask for a Domestic Violence Restraining Order if a person has abused you, and you have a close relationship with that person (married or registered domestic partners, divorced, separated), or you are related, or you have a child with them.

Restraining orders may order a person to leave the home they reside in, if cohabiting with the petitioner (person filing), and have no contact with joint children, unless specific guidelines for visitation are adhered to. Violation of any restraining order is illegal in California and can lead to serious criminal charges.
