Gay & Lesbian Family Law

On June 26, 2013, the United States Supreme Court ruled the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was unconstitutional and DOMA violated the rights of gays and lesbians. The court also found Proposition 8 unconstitutional which resulted in the swift restoration of the freedom to marry in California, making California the thirteenth state where same-sex couples can marry.

No matter if you are in a same-sex marriage or opposite sex marriage, it is extremely important to protect your rights, your partner’s rights and the rights of your children. Here at Lizarraga Law, APC, our attorneys are up-to-date on all new laws pertaining to same-sex marriage and domestic partnership.

Due to the recent ruling of the United States Supreme Court declaring DOMA as unconstitutional, same sex married couples can now seek immigration benefits for their international spouse. If you are contemplating filing for your same-sex spouse, our office can also help.
